a la Betty Draper

My Grandmother, my dad’s mom, had at least one thing in common with Mad Men’s Betty Draper. Even after patiently tackling a sink full of dirty dishes from her seven children and their unruly offspring, her nails were always perfectly pretty and pink.

Grandmother taught me how to paint my nails on Sunday afternoons at her house. And now, as a grown-up, one of my guiltiest pleasures is getting a quick manicure. Recently, at My Nails just down the street, I noticed that, like the NFL, nail polish producer Essie is supporting Breast Cancer awareness month with a new soft pink polish.

It turns out Essie has a history of polishing for good, having teamed up with Teen Vogue to create a special polish for a Declare your Denim event to benefit victims of the Gulf oil spill. It may not be Betty’s style, but a very deep blue is a favorite of hip young professionals like Danielle, my last officemate who helped inspire this blog. Whether for cheering on a Blue Devils team, your cookie monster halloween costume, or just channeling Danielle or the chic cast of The Hills at work, give it a whirl!
