Out of Print

Oh my gosh, I’ve found gifts for almost everyone (AND a new obsession!) from the super-hip Out of Print.

For Dad, the trial lawyer turned judge, whom a college friend once told me reminded him of Atticus Finch…

For Mom, the most well-read person I know, who taught us to love a good Nancy Drew mystery…

For Aunt Mary Lou, the marketing goddess whose timeless style rivals Daisy’s…

For Rosy, the chic and crazy-successful urban language arts teacher turned teacher-trainer…

For Charlie, the outdoorsy musician and campaign numbers cruncher, who is off to law school soon…

For Bennett, my soon-to-be brother-in-law, who is also soon to return to his favorite city…

For Erin, the Steinbeck-loving, ER-doctor-to-be…

And Megos, who got a Jane Austen-themed undergarment at her hen party, and just married her own Mr. Darcy…

For John, who puts up with my little red dog and weekend desires to hike outside Boston… (yup, he gets 2!)

And, for the creative genius who passed this idea on, and who would be president, ceo and king of this blog if it had a budget, Ashley

And look — they’ve got sweatshirts too!

For each item that Out of Print sells, one book is donated to a community in need through their partner Books For Africa, which collects, sorts, ships, and distributes books to children in countries in Africa.

I love that through its name and whimsical website text, Out of Print captures the powerful literary moment that we are living through. “How we read is changing as we move further into the digital age. It’s unclear what the role of the book cover will be in this new era, but we feel it’s more important than ever to reflect on our own individual experiences with great literary art before it’s forever changed.”

P.S. You can’t miss this little reader, also from Ash. He truly captures the spirit of Christmas.

Yikes! Here is to cherishing all the books under our trees!

Love this, Meg! (And not just because of the shout out…) Miss you and hope you have a very, very merry X-mas.

Love these tees! And even though they don’t give, I’m crazy about the Penguin Classics clothbound editions. Our favorite little stationery, etc. store in Cville has the new copy of A Christmas Carol which comes in a perfectly wintry blue and white snowflake cover.

As for books under the Christmas tree… Those of us raised by exceptionally well-read women named Lois or Maureen know that toys either break or get boring whereas a good book with an inscription from Mom & Dad is something you’ll keep forever. 🙂
