Out of Print & Books for Africa for J.Crew

You may remember me posting about the genius Out of Print t-shirt company just before Christmas last year. They are the ones who donate a book to a community in need for every t-shirt sold, through their partner Books for Africa. Well, it seems like J.Crew thinks they are genius too. This season J.Crew is carrying these two tees, which will hopefully generate more book donations than ever.

It seems to me that J.Crew has been ahead of the curve in forming and partnerships with other businesses to offer cool sneaks, watches, sunglasses, work bags, etc. Why recreate the wheel when a great old company has already nailed it.

I thought I’d share another couple of their newer male-oriented collaborations. These aren’t gifts that give, but it’s so hard to find gifts for guys, and these actually got me thinking about how I could hand make or scout out some things like this in the future. How about some notebooks bound of recycled paper?

Or paperweights made from old maps found at thrift shops or places like this adorable shop on Charles Street in Boston? (links in photos)

Here’s hoping J.Crew will keep ramping up the partnerships with socially conscious businesses and nonprofits too. Stay tuned for two new J.Crew gifts that give collaborations that I’ll be posting about next week. In the meantime, hope you stay anchored down during Hurricane Irene, and enjoy the second to last weekend of summer.
