A Cup of Joe: Hugh Jackman’s Laughing Man

Happy New Year! We’ve just had the loveliest couple of days in Rhode Island. We did some work on the house and tried to catch up on a lot of little life things that fell by the wayside during our busy fall. But, thanks to John, we also enjoyed mornings with fresh brewed coffee and fires, usually followed by long sunny hikes with Blue chasing ducks along the water and into the woods and back.

I wish I had known about the new Laughing Man coffee and tea company by Hugh Jackman before Christmas. Their products are made by small businesses incubated by Laughing Man, and 100% of the proceeds that Laughing Man makes go to charity. I like the social venture model, and I hear the coffee is delicious. They’ve got coffee-making accessories too, and it looks like you can even pick up some of their stuff at the new Laughing Man cafe in Tribeca.

While I have long loved a good cup of coffee, I am really starting to obsess over a very strong cup of tea. Only problem is, as I’ve learned from my dad and one of his close Pakistani friends, it’s very hard to find good tea-making systems in the States. Laughing Man sells a few good tea items, but I’m looking for some sort of machine that will brew tea on a timer for the morning. And also just a simple tea cozy without grannyish flowers all over it. I’ve tried British stores, even Harrod‘s, and even little Irish places and can’t find a thing. The one below isn’t floral, but isn’t exactly subtle. Any other ideas?
