Patagonia Pitch

Just a little pitch for a company everyone already adores for their environmentally-friendly nature, corporate responsibility and really warm jackets. My long winter coat had gotten a huge rip in it over the last few months. When I went into the store this weekend to ask them about it, true to their policy they said I could send it in for a 6-week repair – the most environmental approach, as they pointed out – or pick a new coat off their racks – not quite as good for the world, but the used coat would still be offered for sale to employees, given away, or recycled.

Since I unfortunately couldn’t go without my coat for the next 6 weeks, I walked home with a new navy parka. I was pretty surprised and impressed. Plus, they were very nice to Blue, letting him come inside and giving him a couple treats while he waited patiently.

After slipping and sliding home along the Esplanade in our first deep snow, I finally broke down after 10 years of living in Boston and got some real snow boots at our friends’ shop down the street, North River Outfitter, a supporter of 1% for the Planet and carrier of Patagonia. Life changing!
